The Muslim Brotherhood party has called on international organizations to take necessary measures to guarantee the safety of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.

"International organizations should take all necessary measures to force the coup authorities to respect human rights, guarantee the safety of the president and allow his family and lawyers to communicate with him," the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) said in a statement.

"Measures should also be taken to enable international organizations and rights groups to monitor this farcical trial," it added.

Morsi had been due to appear in court on Wednesday to answer charges that he had incited the murder of opposition protesters outside Cairo's Ittihadiya presidential palace in 2012.

But the court postponed the trial of Morsi and 14 co-defendants, seven of whom are being tried in absentia, to February 1,since the ousted leader failed to make it to the session.

Security officials cited "bad weather" as the reason for their apparent failure to transfer Morsi to the trial venue in Cairo.

"The forceful detention of the elected president is a disgrace to the international community," the FJP said.

Morsi, Egypt's first freely elected president, was removed from power by the military in July.
