Ousted President Mohamed Morsi on Friday was announced to be detained for 15 days pending investigation of charges that he had "conspired" with the Gaza-based Hamas movement to carry out "hostile acts" inside Egypt.
State accusations against Egypt's Morsi include killing prisoners and officers, kidnapping soldiers, as well as 'conspiring' with Hamas.
Morsi, Egypt's first democratically elected president, was overthrown by the army on July 3 after mass protests against his regime.
The army subsequently suspended the constitution and installed Adly Mansour, the head of the Egypt's constitutional court, as interim president under a roadmap for the upcoming transitional phase.
Since his ouster, thousands of Morsi supporters have been staging daily demonstrations and sit-ins to defend his democratic legitimacy and demand his reinstatement.Last Mod: 26 Temmuz 2013, 15:12
