Egypt gov't gives Syrians free entry visas

The Egyptian government decided on Monday to give Syrians free entry visas, the Foreign Ministry said.

"This is a manifestation of Egypt's full support for the Syrian people and its determination to alleviate their sufferings and help them in their ordeal," the ministry said in a press statement obtained by the Anadolu Agency.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi reiterated on Sunday his country's support to the Syrian revolution.

He told visiting Syrian opposition leader Ahmed Assi Jarba that recent measures on the entrance of Syrians were "temporary".

Few days after the powerful army ousted elected President Mohammed Morsi on July 3, Egyptian authorities issued new measures requiring Syrians to obtain paid visas and security clearance in advance.

Under Morsi, Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Syrians were allowed into the country without such requirements.
