An Egyptian traffic police officer was killed and another injured in an explosion that targeted their checkpoint in the Giza province on Friday night, the Interior Ministry has said.
"At around 10pm, an explosion targeted a traffic checkpoint in Lebanon Square in Giza's Mohandiseen district, killing Maj. Mohamed Gamaleddin," the ministry said in a statement, adding that another policeman and a civilian had been injured in the blast.
"Security agencies are currently intensifying efforts to determine the cause of the incident," the ministry stated.
State television reported that the blast had been caused by a bomb.
No group has claimed responsibility for Friday's explosion, which is the latest in a series of attacks on security personnel that have remained ongoing since the army ousted elected president Mohamed Morsi last July.Last Mod: 19 Nisan 2014, 09:54
