The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed late Monday that Ambassador Ayman Mosharafa has returned to his post in Tunisia after a two-month recall.
"We summoned the ambassador two months ago following statements from Tunisian officials which we deemed to be an unacceptable interference in Egypt's domestic affairs," Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel-Ati told reporters.
"The ambassador has been sent back to his post and we hope things will settle down for the interest of both countries," he added.
The spokesman did not clarify when exactly was Ambassador Mosharafa sent back to Tunisia.
Egypt recalled the ambassador late in September after President Moncef Marzouki demanded, in a speech before the UN General Assembly, the release of ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi.
Marzouki described Morsi, who was ousted by the Egyptian military on July 3, as a "political prisoner."Last Mod: 19 Kasım 2013, 09:42
