Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Saturday that his country was keen on solving the crisis in Syria through political means.

He added that Egypt also hoped that Syria's opposition would have reached a common ground during its consultations in Egyptian capital Cairo over the past three days.

During a meeting with representatives of this opposition, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said the unity of the opposition would contribute to stopping bloodshed in Syria and also achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people, according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel-Ati.

Abdel-Ati added in a statement that the representatives of Syria's opposition outlined during their meeting with Shoukry the importance of Egypt's regional role.

Representatives of Syria's opposition groups met in Cairo over the past three days in their attempt to reach a unified vision on means of ending their country's crisis.

During their meetings, the opposition activists agreed on a number of points, including the importance of ending the Syrian crisis through political means, and the need for foreign fighters to get out of Syria.

Syria has become entangled in civil war for almost four years now. So far, the war has left tens of thousands of people dead and millions of others displaced both inside and outside Syria.
