Egypt's interim President Adly Mansour will announce the date for a planned constitutional referendum on Saturday, the Presidency said on Wednesday.
Mansour will specify the date during a speech to members of the two constitution-drafting panels and a host of officials.
"The president will call on Egyptians to close ranks and work to serve the interests of the country," said his spokesman IhabBadawi.
Mansour received last week the draft constitution copy from the 50-member committee he had earlier appointed to amend the 2012 charter, which was suspended by the military when ousting elected president Mohamed Morsi on July 3.
Egypt plans to hold a popular referendum – expected sometime in January – on the amended version.
Amending the constitution is a central pillar of the army-imposed roadmap for post-Morsi political transition.Last Mod: 12 Aralık 2013, 09:34
