Units from the Egyptian and United Arab Emirates (UAE) army would engage in a joint military exercise in the Gulf nation, the official UAE news agency WAM reported Saturday evening.

According to the agency, units of the Egyptian Armed Forces arrived in Abu Dhabi to take part in the war games, which start date and duration were not given in the report.

The drills come as part of UAE's plans to "strengthen ties of joint cooperation and interoperability as well as share expertise to leverage combat and preparedness capabilities in order to face challenges the region is experiencing," the agency said.

The Egyptian army has yet to comment on the reported military exercise.

The UAE was among the first Arab countries that welcomed the Egyptian army's July 3 ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi.

The Gulf country has since, along with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, offered $15.9 billion in aid to support Egypt's economy.
