Egypt's Sisi sacks interior minister-UPDATE

World Bulletin / News Desk

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has replaced six government ministers, including Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim, and ordered the establishment of two new ministerial portfolios, the presidency said Thursday.

Magdi Abdel-Ghaffar, former head of the country's Homeland Security Service, has replaced Mohamed Ibrahim as interior minister.

The reshuffle also saw new faces in the ministries of culture, education, communications, tourism and agriculture.

The reshuffle also saw two new state portfolios created: one for population and another for technical education and training.

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said the reshuffle was aimed at infusing new blood into his cabinet.

He lauded the work done by the outgoing ministers, saying they had assumed their positions "at a tough time."

Thursday's reshuffle was the second to be carried out under al-Sisi, who assumed the presidency in June of last year.
