At least eleven people were killed late Monday in Iran's southwestern Shahr Kurd city when a fire broke out in the city prison.
Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province Chief Prosecutor, Abdullah Musavi, said eleven prisoners died due to smoke inhalation during the fire in a prison cell late Monday, according to Iran's official news agency IRNA.
Musavi added that 14 others were wounded in the fire.
He said they are still investigating the cause of the incident and will later make a related statement to the public.
The fire reportedly came amid recent prisoner protests against the prison's poor conditions.
