Ex-SNC leader says there is no hostility between Iran, Hezbollah and us

Former Syrian National Council (SNC) head Abdulbaset Sieda has said that Turkey will play a more effective role in the region if the ongoing peace process succeeds. “If Turkey can manage to solve the Kurdish issue in a democratic way, then it will have a strong influence on the other Kurdish people in the region,” Sieda has added.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Cihan News Agency (Cihan), the Kurdish-Syrian academic and politician Abdulbaset Sieda evaluated the transition process in Syria, the Kurdish issue and the Iran and Hezbollah’s support to Assad regime.

Talking about the settlement process in Turkey, Abdulbaset Sieda has said that he appreciates the steps taken by the government.

“Turkey today has an important role that could play a bigger role in the region. In order to play its crucial role, Turkey must solve the Kurdish problem. We also support solving the Kurdish issue in Syria in a democratic way. Resolving the problem will help Syria handle the other issues and ease the communication between the people,” Sieda told the Cihan News Agency.

“NO DEMAND FOR A SEPARATE KURDISH STATE"

Kurdish politician Abdulbaset Sieda evaluated the claims that a separate Kurdish state to be established in Syria and said, “There is no such a demand from any groups in Syria. I believe that this is understood by everybody. Kurdish issue will also be solved in Syria. We have been working for this within the frame of the Syrian national program.

“THERE IS NOT A SINGLE SYRIAN TO ACCEPT ASSAD"

Former SNC leader Abdulbaset Sieda has stated that they have no problem with groups which are on the regime’s side but have nobody’s blood in their hands. Continuing, Sieda said, “Assad and the groups around him who brought this country into this situation will never be a part of the transition process. After all these destruction, there is not a single Syrian to accept Bashar Assad.”

Furthermore, he said that political solution is the only way out to the Syrian crisis. He maintained his words as, “However, the main question here is related to how this political solution will take place. We should be clear. Assad and his allies, who are responsible for the death of Syrian people, almost destroyed the country. It is impossible that they have a role in the transition process in Syria.”

He also said that for the political solution, a certain roadmap and time should be determined. At the same time, Sieda stressed that there should be an international assurance that a political solution which leaded by Assad will not occur.

Criticizing Iran and Hezbollah for supporting Assad, Abdulbaset Sieda stated that, “We have always said that there is no hostility between Iran, Hezbollah and us. We want to build good relationships with them. Yet, these relations should not be established with the blood of Syrian people. Iran still continues its support to the Assad regime, and its orders to Hezbollah. Hezbollah should stay away from the conflicts in Syria and consume its energy for a powerful country in Lebanon. This wills befefit the whole region.”
