The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said that a UN fact-finding team was "on stand-by and ready to deploy in 24-48 hours" to investigate alleged use of chemical weapons in attacks in Syria.
Ban held a press conference following his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Stating that Syria did not allow entry of UN experts into the country for investigating alleged chemical weapons use, Ban said, "The UN fact-finding team is on stand-by and ready to deploy in 24-48 hours to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in attacks in Syria. I urge the Syrian authorities to provide full and unfettered access to the team."
Ban had previously announced a fact-finding team would go to Syrian province of Aleppo upon the request of the Syrian regime to investigate claims of chemical weapon use by the opposition forces.
The UN fact-finding team is on hold in the Greek Cypriot administration for over a month as the Syrian government refuses to give permission to enter the country.Last Mod: 17 Mayıs 2013, 17:52
