A Filipina working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been sentenced to death after being convicted of killing her employer.

The sentence of Jennifer Dalquez, 28, has been confirmed by Ebrahim Zailon, Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs head in southern General Santos City, ABS-CBN reported Saturday.

Dalquez’s mother Rajima told reporters in General Santos – from where the overseas worker hails - that her daughter was arrested Dec. 12 after stabbing her employer - who had allegedly attempted to rape her -- with the same knife he had pointed at her.

According to the report, Rajima said she had last spoken with her daughter Wednesday, when Jennifer informed her of the sentencing.

She said her daughter had planned to return to the Philippines in January after working in the UAE since 2011.

While the Dalquez family is appealing to the Philippine government for assistance, Zailon said his department would appeal Jennifer’s case.
