France denies plan to intervene in Libya

World Bulletin / News Desk

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius denied on Monday that Western powers were planning to intervene in the south of Libya.

Speaking to Radio Télévision Luxembourg, Fabius said no such intervention was being planned despite the pleas of Libya's southern neighbor Niger.

However, he did say that there was going to be an international meeting in Rome at the beginning of March to give Libya more help.

Libya has been engulfed in violence since the downfall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
