Anti-coup protesters on Wednesday staged fresh rallies in three Egyptian provinces, eyewitnesses said.
Demonstrators in Alexandria's Burg al-Arab neighborhood formed a human chain to denounce "military rule," eyewitnesses said.
Protesters flashed the four-fingered "Rabaa salute" in memory of hundreds of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi who were killed when their protest camps were violently dispersed by security forces last August.
Pro-democracy marches were also staged in the Nile Delta provinces of Damietta and Sharqiya.
The rallies came in response to calls by the National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy for a week of protests starting Friday to mark the anniversary on February 21 of Egypt's 1946 student uprising against the British occupation.
Pro-democracy activists have staged almost daily rallies since last July, when the army ousted Morsi – Egypt's first freely elected leader – following mass protests against his presidency.
