A meeting between Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal and Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs took place yesterday in Qatar with both discussing in detail the situation in the Middle East, particularly developments in Syria and Yemen, the situation in the Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, and looked at current issues concerning the peace process in the Middle East.

Russia reaffirmed its position, during an exchange of views on restoring Palestinian unity, in favour of overcoming intra-Palestinian divisions as soon as possible through the PLO and the Arab Peace Initiative, and said that this was essential in order to reach a comprehensive and fair solution to the Palestinian issue based on international law.
