Hollande cancels speech to Israeli parliament

World Bulletin / News Desk

French president Francois Hollande has cancelled a speech he was planning to give during a three-day trip to the Israeli parliament next month. In return, Israeli sources have reported that Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein is planning to boycott all events in which Hollande will be present.

Yuli Edelstein is apparently outraged that Hollande would visit the parliament but not address its members, while Hollande’s secretaries have said that the speech was cancelled to make time to address the public in another speech.

Middle East Monitor reported that Edelstein told the French embassy "if the president will not speak to Knesset members then he should not visit the Knesset at all," before he cancelled his own scheduled meeting with Holland.

While Hollande still plans to visit Israel, Edelstein has instructed his colleagues not to receive him formally as a punishment for his ‘offense’ to the parliament.
