Shiite Houthi militants late on Sunday stormed the home of Yemeni activist and Nobel Laureate Tawakkol Karman in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, the activist said.

She added in a statement on her Facebook page that 12 Houthi members broke into her home and controlled it, a short time after Houthis signed a deal with the Yemeni presidency to end a political crisis that had haunted the Yemeni capital for more than three weeks now.

Karman is famous for her pronounced antagonism to militant movements in her country, including the Houthi movement.

She called on the movement more than one time to disarm and be part of Yemen's political process.

Karman also repeatedly accused Houthis of receiving financial support from Iran with the aim of fomenting sectarian strife in Yemen.

Houthis have been taking to the streets in Sanaa for more than three weeks to demand the resignation of the government and the abolition of a previous government decision to raise fuel subsidies.
