Reports suggest that Iran is looking to move its political powerbase out of Tehran and establish a new capital city.
According to the ISNA news agency, Ahsan Alevi, an official from the ‘progress project’, said that the Iranian parliament has agreed to search for a more suitable capital city.
Officials have apparently stated that the current capital city, Tehran, is too crowded and expanding too rapidly.
Talk of moving certain governmental departments outside the city, which is believed to be home to as many as 13 million people, has long been on the agenda. However, this is the first time that moving the government out of Tehran in its entirety has been discussed.Last Mod: 21 Ekim 2013, 17:15
