Iraq's Kurdish regional government welcomed the historic nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers during talks in Geneva over the weekend on Tehran's nuclear program.

Releasing a press statement on its official website, the government said, "We welcome the nuclear agreement reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the five permament members of UN Security Council, the US, Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany" adding that they are pleased with the development.

The statement noted that Iraqi Kurdish regional government favors a solution for the nuclear issue via dialogue and negotiations.

"The Government of Kurdistan supports efforts in Geneva towards resolving the problems related with Iran's nuclear program. Kurdistan wishes for the deal to be a starting point for a healthy and peaceful dialogue between the parties. Furthermore, we sincerely hope for the deal to serve for a lasting peace and stability in the region," concluded the statement.
