Israel announced on Sunday allocating $8.6 million for army reservists who were mobilized for the recent onslaught against Gaza Strip and $6.6 million for communities near the Gaza border.

"The fund will assist soldiers who suffered economic damage due to their participation in the fighting and students who were mobilized," the Israeli government said in a statement.

It added that the reservists would receive the benefits in September 2014, instead of May 2015.

The statement said, meanwhile, that public spaces, sports facilities, parks and cultural institutions in areas adjacent to the Gaza Strip would be repaired and rebuilt.

The announcement came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said that the Gaza operation would take "time and patience."

Israel has been pounding the Gaza Strip since July 7, killing at least 1918 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and injuring more than 10,000 others.

Israel says the offensive aims to halt rocket attacks from the Palestinian territory.

According to Israeli figures, at least 64 soldiers have been killed in battles with Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip and three civilians by rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian and Israeli negotiators had held indirect talks in Cairo for the past days with the aim of reaching a long-term ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but the talks have failed to bear fruit.

An earlier Egyptian-brokered three-day ceasefire had expired on Friday.
