Israeli PM slammed over son's 'sacreligious' relationship

World Bulletin / News Desk

Far-right Jewish groups in Israel are criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for allowing his son to be in a relationship with a non-Jew.

Netanyahu’s 23-year-old son Yair has been in a relationship with 25-year-old Norwegian Sandra Leikanger, a Christian girl he met at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya.

According to traditional Jewish belief, religion is matrilineal, which means one’s religion is inherited from the mother. Therefore, should Netanyahu’s son have children from this particular woman, in accordance to Jewish tradition they will not be considered Jews

Nissim Ze’ev, a far-right Israeli politician condemned the relationship, calling it a “big problem.”

Speaking to the Jerusalem Post, he said “As the prime minister of Israel and the Jewish people, (Benjamin Netanyahu) must display national responsibility via the values he presents inside his own household.

Even one of Netanyahu’s own party members and head of the Jewish Leadership faction of Israel’s centre-right Likud party, Moshe Feiglin, said “(Netanyahu)’s son has found a Gentile! His father is proud of him and gives legitimacy to the assimilation and destruction of the Jewish people.”
