Israeli settlers on Saturday set 200 olive trees on Palestinian farmlands near Nablus, northern the occupied West Bank, on fire, an eyewitness said.

He added that scores of settlers set the olive trees ablaze under protection from the Israeli army, which did not move to prevent them.

Civil defense personnel could get to the burning trees, which contributed to their total destruction, the eyewitness told Anadolu Agency.

The residents of the area, where the attacked farmlands are located, earn a living by growing olives.

Occupied West Bank rural areas are subject to daily violations from Israeli settlers who repeatedly attack farmlands and destroy properties.

AA could not immediately obtain comments from Israeli authorities on the latest event or the account of the eyewitness.
