Two Israeli smugglers were killed following an exchange of fire with Egyptian border guards on the border between the two countries, the Israeli radio reported Tuesday.
According to the broadcaster, the two smugglers were shot by Egyptian troops near the border area of Nitzana.
Israeli army troops arrived in the scene and shot warning shots into the air, it said.
An Israeli military source was quoted by the radio as saying that bags with drugs were found near the scene of the incident.
An Egyptian military source, requesting anonymity, told that the Egyptian troops opened fire at a smuggler on the Israeli side of the border.
"We don't know if he was injured or killed, but we can confirm that our troops targeted him," he added.
