Kuwait has categorically denied reports about contacts between the Gulf Arab country and Israel.

"These claims are baseless," a Foreign Ministry source was quoted as saying by the official KUNA news agency on Monday.

"There are no meetings, official or unofficial contacts, public or secret," the source said.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman had claimed that Israel was holding secret contacts with some Arab states that look forward to establishing diplomatic relations with Israel based on their common fear of Shiite-majority Iran.

Speaking to Yediot Aharonot newspaper, Lieberman alleged that Saudi Arabia and Kuwait were among these countries.

According to the Foreign Ministry source, Kuwait has a "firm and public" position regarding contacts with Israel.

"Kuwait will be the last country to normalize relations with Israel," the source said.

Oil-rich Saudi Arabia often denies reports about meetings between Saudi and Israeli diplomats.

In the past six months, Riyadh had denied twice reports that Saudi diplomats had met with their Israeli counterparts.
