Kuwait will not take Saudi Arabia UNSC seat

World Bulletin / News Desk

Khalid Suleiman Al-Jarallah, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry Undersecretary, has denied reports that his country will be taking Saudi Arabia’s place on the UN Security Council after the latter had rejected a seat on moral grounds.

On the contrary, Al-Jarallah told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday that "Kuwait, as we have stated on several occasions, is part of the efforts to convince Saudi Arabia to reverse its decision."

Earlier reports from CNN suggested that Kuwait was about the take the seat in the UNSC that Saudi Arabia had left vacant, which was also supported by a Bahraini diplomat who said that it is custom for that particular seat to be occupied by an Arab nation in Asia.
