Kuwaiti prosecutors have detained a journalist specializing in Iranian affairs for 24 hours pending investigation into charges of spreading false news.

Journalist and researcher Aisha al-Rashid was summoned by prosecutors on Tuesday following reports she broadcast on her YouTube program about Iranian army commander Qassem Soleimani sponsoring violence in Kuwait.

Al-Rashid had said that Soleimani sneaked into Kuwait last month during a massive power cut which hit parts of the country that the government attributed to a power plant malfunction.

Al-Rashid said that Soleimani had been preparing for the "zero hour of launching acts of sabotage" inside Kuwait.

In her program, broadcast on YouTube on March 2, al-Rashid had questioned the government's delayed explanation of the reasons for the power cut at the time.
