Lebanon's military prosecutor on Saturday charged 12 people, including an official from a Lebanese political party backing the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, with alleged terrorist links.
The 12 people – 11 of whom are at large – face charges of belonging to a terrorist organization and involvement in recent sectarian violence in Tripoli's Alawite-majority Jabal Mohsen neighborhood, a judicial source said.
According to the source, the defendants include Rifaat Eid, a senior member of the Arab Democratic Party, which backs Assad's regime.
Lebanon's military prosecutor on Friday charged eight people with joining the militant Al-Nusra Front and planning attacks against the Lebanese army in Tripoli.
