The eastern Libyan province of Al-Bayda' on Saturday saw the first ballot to elect a municipal chief since the 2011 fall of strongman Muammar Gaddafi.
The 7-member municipal council held a closed session on Saturday to elect a council chief in a secret ballot.
"The seven members will cast ballot to elect the council head," election official Fathallah al-Hadad told Anadolu Agency.
Another vote will be held later Saturday to elect a chief of the Shahat municipal council in eastern Libya.
A senior Ministry of Local Development official said the vote is one of the goals of the February 17 uprising that ended Gaddafi's autocracy.
