Forces affiliated with Libya's Tobruk-based government and parliament on Monday shot down a fighter jet affiliated with the rival Dawn of Libya militia, which is backed by Libya's Tripoli-based government and parliament.
The fighter jet was shot down in western Libya, the country's official news agency quoted a military official as saying.
The official, who was not named, told the news agency that the jet had been shot down on Monday morning.
The fighter jet had bombed targets in the western city of Zintan before being shot down, the source said.
He added that the pilot had been burnt to death inside the plane, while army troops had surrounded the site where the plane fell to earth.
The news agency also published images of the wreckage.
The army and the militia have been fighting one another for several months now.
