Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the lifting of the arms embargo on the Syrian opposition by the EU was illegitimate.
Lavrov responded to the question of the Russian media after the trilateral summit with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Foreign Minister of France Laurent Fabius.
"States are not allowed to sell weapons to the external groups, according to international rules," said Lavrov about the decision of lifting the arms embargo by EU.
Lavrov referred to the "International Weapon Trade Agreement of UN," penned in April, and added, "Delivery of weapons can be made only to the states. In this context, I don't know, on which rules delivering the weapons to the Syrian opposition would be based."
Lavrov stressed that they made a verbal agreement that there will be no weapon deliveries to Syrian the opposition till August 1.
Lavrov reminded that the issue of delivering the weapons would be negotiated after August and said, "I am repeating, the decision of lifting the embargo is illegitimate."Last Mod: 29 Mayıs 2013, 12:40
