An executive from NATO said, "If any side resorts to chemical weapons, we would expect a response from the international community."
Regarding the claims that the Assad regime used chemical weapons in Syria, the NATO executive told Turkish press on Friday, "Allies have made clear that any use of chemical weapons in Syria would be completely unacceptable and a breach of international law. If any side resorts to these weapons, we would expect a response from the international community."
Earlier this week, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said, "the worsening crisis in Syria continues to pose a threat to regional stability. We are extremely concerned about the use of ballistic missiles in Syria and the possible use of chemical weapons. If these challenges remain unaddressed, they could directly affect NATO's security, so we will continue to remain extremely vigilant."
On April 25, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said US intelligence reached the conclusion that Syrian government used chemical weapons during the clashes which had been continuing for two years in the country.
Britain also said it had limited but persuasive information from various sources showing chemical weapon use in Syria.Last Mod: 26 Nisan 2013, 16:34
