The nephew of a Hezbollah minister in Lebanon's caretaker government was killed when he carried out a suicide operation near Syrian capital Damascus, according to the Lebanese-Shiite militant faction.
Ali Rida al-Haj Hassan, 20, the nephew of Lebanese Agriculture Minister Hussein al-Haj Hassan, was killed in his first operation in the town of Ghouta, Hezbollah said in a statement published online.
A Hezbollah-affiliated website had earlier reported that Rida, who hails from the eastern town of Baalbek, had been killed along with two Hezbollah fighters in a "Jihadist" operation.
A Facebook page administered by Hezbollah asserted that Al-Qaeda militants had besieged a group of Hezbollah fighters in Ghouta.
According to the Facebook page, one Hezbollah fighter blew himself up, allowing his colleagues to escape the besieged building "to continue their mission."
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said last month that 187 Hezbollah fighters had been killed in Syria since the outbreak of the conflict in early 2011.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah said earlier this month that his fighters would remain in Syria to "defend" the country.Last Mod: 28 Kasım 2013, 16:02
