A new draft resolution on Syria was presented to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on Thursday.

Turkey was among the countries sponsoring the new draft resolution.

28 countries in total submitted the new draft resolution on Syria to the UN General Assembly after the UN Security Council failed to take action on Syria due to differences in opinion among the members of the Council.

A voting on the draft resolution on Syria will take place at the UN General Assembly next week. While the voting on the resolution would not be binding, it would help the international community show its stance on Syria.

President of the UN General Assembly, Vuk Jeremic must place the draft resolution on the agenda in order for a voting to take place on the resolution.

The new draft resolution strongly condemns the human rights violations in Syria caused by the Syrian administration using heavy weaponry.

The draft resolution indicates that the Syrian regime failed to protect its own people.

The new draft resolution expressed pleasure over the UN Secretary General's initiatives to establish a delegation to study allegations on the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

The draft resolution also expressed pleasure over the establishment of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces and underlined that the Syrian National Coalition was accepted as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people at the Marrakech meeting of the Group of Friends of Syrian People.

The new draft resolution calls on all sides to end violence in Syria and underlines that the best way to end the crisis in Syria would be through a fast political transition.
