Director of the PLO’s politburo in Damascus Anwar Abdul-Hadi reportedly said that the arming of some Palestinians in Damascus’ Yarmouk refugee camp will eventually lead the Palestinians in Syria’s refugee camps to become involved in the conflict.

Abdul-Hadi said Friday that Ahmad Jibreel, secretary-general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, was responsible for the events in the Yarmouk camp over the past two months, Ma'an News Agency reported.

“The Yarmouk camp has not witnessed any tough events since the outbreak of the conflict in Syria, except in the last two months. The latest event was yesterday when 20 people were killed and about 65 were injured,” Abdul-Hadi told Ma'an.

He explained that Thursday’s attack came after Ahmad Jibreel armed some men in the camp under the pretext of protecting the Palestinians. “We reject this completely because our protection is the responsibility of the state of Syria, and we are only guests there.”

Asked about the number of gunmen Ahmad Jibreel recruited, Abdul-Hadi said it is in the hundreds.

He highlighted that all Palestinian factions cooperate and coordinate with each other except Hamas. “We don’t know anything about Hamas as there is no coordination with Hamas.”

Ahmad Jibreel has declared his support to the al-Assad regime, and he recently recruited men affiliated to his faction “to defend the Palestinian refugee camps against the free army.”

Meanwhile President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the latest attack on Yarmouk camp on Thursday which killed at least 20 people, a statement from his office said.

Doctors at three nearby hospitals said at least 20 people were killed and 65 wounded.

Yarmouk camp is the largest Palestinian refugee community and is home to more than 100,000 people.
