A delegation of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) will visit Syria soon to discuss the issue of the Yarmouk refugee camp with the Syrian regime, leading PLO member Ahmed Majdalani said Monday.

"The delegation will arrive in Syria after completing arrangements with the Syrian government," Majdalani told, adding that the date has yet to be decided.

Majdalani went on to note that the delegation would generally discuss with the Syrian regime the situation of Palestinians in Syria, with a particular focus on the situation in the Yarmouk refugee camp, which is located in capital Damascus's southern region.

"The delegation also plans to discuss means by which Palestinians can avoid the ongoing conflict in the county," he said, adding that the Palestinian leadership is making extensive efforts with Arab organizations and the UN to end the crisis in Yarmouk camp.

Majdalani said that about 7,000 to 8,000 Palestinians remain inside the camp, noting that more people are escaping towards the town of Yalda located on the southern outskirts of Damascus.
