A coalition of largely Islamist parties and groups that support ousted President Mohamed Morsi has called for "global" rallies on Friday to denounce what it describes as the "military coup" against Egypt's elected leader and to demand his reinstatement.

"The Egyptian people's revolution has become the cause of honorable and free people worldwide because it reflects the right of the people to choose their rulers and reject military coups," the National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy said in a Thursday statement.

The coalition went on to appeal to "free people" around the world to take to the streets in peaceful marches on Friday to denounce Morsi's ouster.

Morsi, Egypt's first democratically elected president, was deposed by the powerful army on July 3 after mass demonstrations against his regime.

Ever since his removal, thousands of demonstrators have been staging daily protests and sit-ins to defend the ousted president's "democratic legitimacy" and demand his reinstatement.

The two largest sit-ins have been staged in Rab'a al-Adaweya Square in eastern Cairo and Nahda Square in Giza.

On Wednesday, the Egyptian government declared that the continuation of the two pro-Morsi sit-ins constituted a "threat" to Egypt's national security.
