Saudi Arabia has demanded an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Arab League to discuss the situation in Syria, an Arab diplomatic source said Thursday.
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi conveyed the Saudi request to league member-states and consultations are currently underway to set a date for the meeting, the source told Anadolu Agency.
The meeting will tackle the latest developments in Syria, which has remained in the throes of conflict since early 2011, when a peaceful uprising against President Bashar al-Assad escalated into full-fledged civil war following a violent government crackdown.
According to the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 150,000 people have been killed since the conflict began more than three years ago.Last Mod: 08 Mayıs 2014, 15:11
