Saudi Arabia's crown prince, Prime Minister and Defense Minister Salman bin Abdel-Aziz, met with U.K. Defense Secretary Michael Fallon in the western city of Jeddah on Monday.

The meeting focused on means of bolstering bilateral cooperation and the latest developments in the Middle East region, Saudi's official news agency reported.

Fallon's visit comes amid intense diplomatic activity in the region as part of U.S.-led efforts to form an international coalition to fight the militant ISIL group.

On September 11, Saudi Arabia hosted a regional meeting – also attended by the U.S. and Turkey – to discuss proposed strategies for fighting ISIL.

British Prime Minister David Cameron had earlier vowed to wage war against the militant group.

This summer, the ISIL managed to overrun vast swathes of territory in both Iraq and Syria.
