Chairperson of the Legal Committee of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces (SNC), Heysem Malih said they did not make a decision yet on attending the 2nd Geneva International Conference on Syria due in June.
Malih spoke to AA saying "We have not decided on sitting in the conference yet. It will be clear tomorrow (Thursday) at the meeting in Istanbul. If we decide to attend the Geneva meeting, a committee representing the SNC needs to be formed."
One of the members of SNC, Hisham Marwa said the possibility of the final decision 'attending the Geneva conference' was low in case of someone from Assad side participating in the conference.
It was previously announced that Syria issue would be handled in an international conference after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry had meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov .
The first Geneva Conference on Syria, held on June 30 last year, recognized the need for a transition government based on the mutual consent between Assad regime and the opposition group. The meeting resulted in the agreement between Russia, Syria's important ally, and the Western countries, after months of disagreement, on forming a Syrian government including elements from the present government and the opposition and other groups and formed on the basis of mutual consent.Last Mod: 22 Mayıs 2013, 16:11
