UN and Arab League Special Envoy on Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, urged Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi to support the conference on Syria, titled the second Geneva meeting.
Morsi received Brahimi at the Presidential Palace in Cairo where they discussed the international conference on Syria, according to sources.
Brahimi called on Morsi to support the conference in order for its success, and to convince the opposition to take part in the negotiations.
"All parties need to take on political responsibility for the resolution of the crisis. The point the crisis has come to requires all parties to gather at the negotiation table at the international conference," Brahimi stated.
Following the Moscow visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry, US and Russia had decided that an international conference would be organized to discuss the Syria issue.
