A car exploded near a mosque in Saudi Arabia's Dammam on Friday, killing two people, a witness said.
The witness, identified only as Ahmed, told Reuters he was with his family near the mosque when "a quick explosion" happened. He did not know the cause of the blast.
An eyewitness told Middle East Eye that the attacker was confronted by a guard at a checkpoint outside the mosque, and was subsequently killed when the bomb was detonated.
"I was inside the mosque and ran outside when I heard what sounded like a bomb," the witness said, asking to remain anonymous. "So far two people [including the guard] have been confirmed as killed."
