Turkey's permanent representative to the UN Geneva Office Oguz Demiralp said on Wednesday that Syria conducted a sectarian war engaging in ethnic cleansing.

Speaking at a session of The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on the deteriorating situation of human rights and the Syrian regime's assault on the central town of Qusayr, Demiralp called on the international community to take Syrians' demands for protection into account.

"Syria needs urgent help. The Syrians are deprived of water and electricity, and they are the targets of heavy weapons and ballistic missiles. 40 airstrikes hit civilians every minute according to the reports," said Demiralp.
