UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi arrived in Cairo on Saturday from Paris on a two-day visit to Egypt.
He will hold talks with a number of Egyptian officials to prepare for an international conference in Geneva on the Syrian crisis.
Brahimi is scheduled to meet Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi and Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi to discuss preparations for the Geneva conference and Egyptian efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, according to a diplomatic source.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) is expected to decide on attending the conference next week.
In Geneva, spokeswoman Khawla Mattar said the date for the long-awaited peace conference in Geneva will be announced by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon "in due time". She added that the meeting was likely to place in the "second half of November".
But Fayez Sara, an adviser to SOC head Ahmad Jarba, told Anadolu Agency that the coalition has not received any confirmation about the conference's date.Last Mod: 19 Ekim 2013, 15:25
