The Syrian National Coalition, main opposition in Syria, calls for a guarantee that President Bashar al-Assad will step down as a condition for them to attend Geneva 2 Conference.
“Assad will have no role in the transitional process and the future of Syria,” the group said in a conference held in Istanbul. The Syrian National Coalition stated that they have conditional acceptance to participate in the Geneva 2 Conference if they get a guarantee for a political transition.
Meanwhile, the Syrian National Coalition increased the number of its members to eleven by accepting eight new members from Syrian Kurdish National Council.
More than 100,000 people have been killed since the Assad regime's crackdown on dissidents began in March 2011, according to UN. The planning for “Geneva 2” conference which aims to end the Syrian confilict has been continuing for months.
