The newly elected interim President of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (SNC), Ahmed al-Jarba, and his delegation will meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry in New York on Thursday to promote an international conference and a political solution to the more than three years old conflict in Syria.
Erin Pelton, spokeswoman for the US mission to the United Nations, said on her twitter account that Kerry was scheduled to meet Jarba and his delegation which also includes Michel Kilo, Burhan Ghalioun and Najib Ghadbian, the SNC's ambassador to the US and the UN.
Kerry will also preside a UN Security Council meeting assessing progress in implementing a peace accord signed by 11 African nations to end years of fighting in eastern Congo. He will come together with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
The SNC said in a written statement that Jarba would give a briefing to the members of the UN Security Council.
Kerry and Jarba will meet for the first time since he was elected president of the Syrian National Coalition on July 6.
They will discuss the current situation in Syria, how to support a process of political dialogue and the Geneva Conference II.
