Syrian regime breaks ISIL siege on Deir al-Zour city

The Syrian regime Tuesday broke a 3-year long siege imposed by ISIL terrorist group on the eastern city of Deir al-Zour, Syrian regime’s news agency SANA reported.

According to the news agency, the advancing regime forces coming from the western front met guards of Regiment 137 on Tuesday afternoon, and thus, broke the siege.

The terrorist group had imposed a siege in 2014.

In March, the regime forces backed by Russian air force managed to take control over the city of Palmyra in the eastern Homs countryside.

In August, the city of Sokhna and a number of villages and towns in the east of Deir al-Zour were captured by the Syrian regime before fully retaking the administrative border of the city on Monday.
