Three Libyan soldiers were killed and three others injured on Thursday in an ambush by unidentified gunmen in the eastern city of Benghazi.
The gunmen ambushed a military force on Bawabet Bouhadi road in Benghazi suburbs, killing three soldiers and injuring as many, Libyan Special Forces spokesman Meloud al-Zawi told Anadolu Agency.
The attack is the second today after a soldier was gunned down in the city by unknown gunmen.
On Wednesday, unidentified gunmen killed three soldiers in two separate attacks in Benghazi, which earlier this week was rocked by deadly clashes between the army and militiamen.
At least nine people were killed and 49 injured in clashes on Sunday in Benghazi between the Libyan army and fighters from Ansar al-Sharia militia.
The army blamed the militia for the violence, while Ansar al-Sharia denied that its members had been responsible for the clashes.
Earlier this month, clashes in capital Tripoli between protesters and militiamen left 46 people dead and 519 injured.
Libyans have struggled to restore order to their country since the death two years ago of longstanding strongman Muammar Gaddafi.
The transitional government and its security forces, meanwhile, have struggled to contain the armed militias that helped overthrow Gaddafi but which held onto their weapons after the 2011 uprising.Last Mod: 29 Kasım 2013, 09:17
