Tunisia declared a national day of mourning on Friday following the assassination of Mohamed Brahmi, leader of Movement of the People Party, and flags will be lowered to half-mast at governmental institutions, the statement released by Tunisia's Presidential Office said Friday.

Autopsy results revealed 14 bullets have hit Brahmi, six on his body and eight on his left leg by a 9 mm calibrated gun, the statement also said.

Tunisian Ministry of Justice said the investigations continued in relation to the assassination.

The Constituent Assembly of Tunisia declared a day of mourning and suspended the activities of the parliament for Friday due to the Brahimi assasination.

Speaker of Constituent Assembly of Tunisia Mostafa bin Jaafar, stating that the assembly declared a day of mourning, called for a special session to discuss "the effects of the violence against the politicians to the stability of the country and the construction of young democracy."

Tunisian Nahda Party leader Ghannouchi defined the attack as "cowardly and flagitious" in a web statement.

Tunisian opposition politician Mohamed Brahmi was shot dead outside his home in Tunis on Thursday in the second such assassination this year.
