Turkey protects Ottoman archives in Jerusalem

TIKA has completely renovated the Ihya Turas Islamic Research and Archives Center, under Palestine’s Foundations and Religious Affairs Ministry, in Jerusalem with the latest technology.

The opening of the Ihya Turas Islamic Research and Archive Center in Jeruslaem was conducted by Turkey’s Consul General in Jerusalem Palestine Sakir Torunlar, Palestine’s Foundations and Religious Affairs Minister Mahmoud Habbash, TIKA’s Palestine Coordinator Kursad Mahmat and center president Mohammad Safadi.

The center, completely renovated with equipment of the latest technology from fire alarm systems to archive cabinets, is home to 700 thousand Arabic documents, 307 thousand Ottoman court, foundation, and title registration records, and 4 thousand 58 Arabic and Ottoman written works shedding light on a 400 year history.  

The center was renewed by the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) after 2 years and an investment of approximately 1.5 million dollars.
